Pipe walking is a common issue during roll grooving. This article explains how to correctly position the pipe and make a small angle adjustment of approximately 2° opposite to the direction of rotation to help improve pipe tracking and grooving stability.

During roll grooving, the pipe support should first be positioned correctly. Make sure the pipe is level with the roll grooving machine, properly supported, and centered from side to side.
If the pipe still tends to move sideways during grooving, commonly referred to as pipe walking or pipe tracking, a slight adjustment to the horizontal angle of the pipe can help improve its running stability.
The adjustment is simple:
Slightly angle the pipe by approximately 2° in the direction opposite to its rotation.
Only a small adjustment is needed. This slight change in angle can help reduce pipe walking and keep the pipe running more steadily during the grooving process. Refer to the illustration below for the correct adjustment direction.
In actual operation, it is better to start with a small adjustment, observe how the pipe tracks, and then fine-tune the angle as needed. Avoid making a large adjustment at one time.
